Lauren and David: Our Year Married

Well, it looks like David and I are the veteran married couple amongst the Engaged and Underage couples. Being that we were the pilot episode, we were the first to get married. We are currently on the road with the Anberlin, Bayside, Meg & Dia and Jonezetta tour working for our non-profit organization, To Write Love On Her Arms. We just celebrated our one-year anniversary a couple of days ago. Luckily, our anniversary landed on a day off in Las Vegas.

As David and I were walking up the strip the night of our anniversary, we were reflecting back on where we started a year ago and where we've come. In one way, it feels like our year happened in the blink of an eye. But then reflecting back on everything we've had the privilege to do this year, we are blown away at how far life has taken us injust one year.

This year has driven us to never settle for anything short of our hearts’ desires. This year has encouraged us to believe that anything is possible in life if we choose to persevere. Please don't get me wrong; this year was not a cakewalk. It was full of work, frustrations, and a ton of learning. But, despite all the difficulty, we know without a shadow of a doubt that if we pursue our dreams, they are absolutely possible. Our dreams aren't always handed to us, but just because we have to go through hurdles does not mean they are any less possible.

So, this is in my opinion our year in a nutshell, the huge things in life are not as giant as they seem. Big things are absolutely possible and worth every hurdle to attain.

Write back soon and check out more information on our charity!-- Lauren http://www.twloha.com/www.myspace.com/towriteloveonherarms

Hello everyone, it’s David. I can't believe our show aired almost two months ago, and I can't believe Lauren and I have been married for over a year now. It has flown by, but we have done so much in this year and gone through a lot as well. We continue to grow closer daily.

We are currently on tour with To Write Love on Her Arms, the non-profit that we both work full time for. We have been out for almost a month, and are just hitting the half way mark. This is the fourth tour that I have been on, and it is amazing to have Lauren on this tour with me. We are seeing all the major cities in the U.S. together. Yesterday as we were walking on Pier 39 in San Francisco, we were talking about what a great experience it is to be doing this together. The bands we are on tour with are amazing -- Anberlin, Bayside, Meg and Dia, and Jonezetta. We have gotten to know them all really well and the bands and their crews are all great people. We have been able to meet a lot of the people who we have been corresponding with us via internet through TWLOHA, which has been amazing.

We are also getting "recognized" a lot which is really weird to us. Although, it is really cool to meet all these people who have seen our show and talk to them and answer their questions. We have also been able to talk with several young engaged couples and several young married couples. We have been able to talk about our experiences and answer any questions they may have, as well as ask any questions we might have. A few couples have even come up and said they have applied for the show, so we may be watching some of them on TV in the future.

With that said, if anyone has any questions we would be happy to answer any of them. Being on the road, internet is hard to get to, but we will do our best to answer as much as we can.

Hey, I was at the first anberlin show, in charlotte! I didn't watch your episode until later, on the internet. I wish I had seen it before and known who you were! Your episode was my favorite, I think it's really cool that you are both christians and were virgins before you got married, and how awesome to be going on tour with some great bands for a great cause and traveling the country. I hope your next year of marriage is even better than the first!

hello, I'm Tara. I'm 21, I've been married for a little over a year. I just wanted to tell you that even though you are young, you can survive. My family was not very accepting of the fact that I was married so young, but they love my husband and me. We are having a big wedding in July of 08. We didn't tell anyone we were getting married, we just did it. Just have faith in yourself and your marriage and your love and everything will work out.

Take care & best wishes,
Tara

Hey my husband and I checked out your non-profit organization, and were definitely touched by it's message. We work with with middle-schoolers and have recently seen certain issues arise in their lives. It's awesome to know this movement is out there. We would love to support it.

I just caught your wedding on MTV and was very touched by the fact that you both shared the same Christian beliefs, you searched to find those qualities in a mate and then presevered your virginity for marriage. I strive to instill those morals in my two sons and you both gave me hope that there are still young women out there who are interested in a good ol' Christian boy who has maintained his virginity! The other thing that provoked my interest was that Lauren was wearing an Oklahoma Sooners tee in the show...I was wondering if she was originally from Oklahoma? I saw you both attended ORU, I'm just down the road at Lake Eufaula! Just curious! Best wishes to you both and kudos for setting a positive Christian example in a world of madness.

Congrats to both of you! I just saw your episode on TV again. It's my favorite out of all of them. What's the name of the song you had your first dance to at your wedding and who is the artist? That was a great song.

Hi David and Lauren!
Just wanted to tell you guys that your episode was truly beautiful. It was amazing to see your dedication to each other and that you are both Christians! My prayer is that God will continue to use and bless you guys!! Your marriage is a true example of what love is all about.. and I pray that God will do the same in my life (in His time)!
Take care,

You two (and David's mom) are my favorite "couple." I just jest about his mom being part of your twosome. But if MTV did consider doing a reality-based show, which concerns itself with life after the wedding, I think that you would be the perfect charismatic subjects to watch.

Hi David and Lauren,
I was just wondering if there was anyway I could see more pictures of your hair style for the wedding some how. My fiance and I are getting married at the end if this month and your hairstyle is the one that I really want for my wedding! Just let me know if there is anyway I could get some pictures to show my stylist (the pictures on the MTV website don't show your hair too well...) Thanks!

In Christ,
Sarah

Hey Lauren,
I was just wondering if there is anyway I can see more pictures of your hairstyle for the wedding. I think it was absolutely beautiful and our hair types seem about the same (short and not too thick). I'm getting married at the end of the month and your hairstyle is about the only one that I have found that I love! Let me know where I could find other pictures (the MTV website pictures do not show your hair too well and I need to show my stylist!) Thanks!

In Christ,
Sarah

I gave up on watching MTV a couple of years ago due to the fact that the majority of the shows and the content on MTV was pure trash. However, I did catch your show and I appreciate your christian influences throughout. We need more people like you both in this world. Hopefully, someone out there was touched by your faith and dedication. Thank you for that. Plus, I am grateful for your work with TWLOHA, being someone who has struggled with depression and suicide. So, I bought a couple of shirts to help support all of your hard work and efforts. Good luck in life, I know God will bless you both!

I just wanted to let you know that I am also proof that getting married young WORKS! I am 26 and have been with my now husband since I was 13 years old. We have now been married for going on 7 years, we have 5 year old twin sons and an almost 4 year old daughter! As long as you love the person and are willing to sacrifice for each other and work things out, it doesn't matter how old you are!!

Hey Lauren, you both seem happy together. I have a question for you, though. It may be a little off subject and weird. I have no one else to talk to though. Before my current boyfrien I was used and taken advantaged of. Guys have just disrespected me almost all my life and it's jsut really hard for me to trust anyone(guys especially). Now, my current boyfriend has been telling me he wants to propose to me. I ablsolutely love him and I know he loves me, but my trust for any guy is just gone! How did you know that David was the one for you? When you get married it's for life. How did you know that he'd respect you and honor you as a person and wife? Hopefully, you understand what I'm trying to say. Good luck to you both. You looked beautiful on your wedding day.

I am 22, and he is 21 so its nice to be able to relate to this show. I hope you guys had a good 1st year!! Hopefully we get to hear an update soon! Best of luck!

My husband, also David, and I got married in January. Your Engaged show was one of the few we really related to and felt happy about, I have to say. I'm 22 and David is 21. We just graduated from the University of Florida in December; we met through a Christian organization on campus. Also, David's sister is Amy...she and her husband Scott (Devo) live in Manhattan and go to Origins Church. She's good friends with Trisha Horst: Trisha's brother, Thad, is best friends with Scott. I just thought it was a small world. So congrats on the one year anniversary and representing true love and marriage to a generation that needs to see it. God bless.

I have to say... I don't watch MTV, or any TV for that matter. However, flipping through channels I saw Lauren's name, which is my name as well, and being a sucker for weddings and romance, I watched. From the Christian perspective, I was intrigued and rather pleased to watch your wedding for obvious reasons. I must thank you for giving me hope. I can't tell you how many times my boyfriend and I have heard, "Statistics say you'll get a divorce..." But I believe God is above statistics, as He is above us all. Thank you for choosing to be a Christian influence in a culture where that is rare. Thank you for who you are together and individually. I can only pray that every Christian becomes a ministry with their spouse like you. "My dear friends, don't let public opinion influence how you live out our glorious, Christ-originated faith." James 2:1

Hey Guys! I love your episode the best because I grew up and became a Christian in Melbourne, FL. My name is Anne and I went to Covenant Presbyterian on Emerson dr. I really miss Melbourne! And I'm so glad that you guys dove into marriage as young as you did. I was 21 when my husband and I were married and now we have a 10 month old daughter. I believer there's a reason that the Bible speaks of the "wife of your youth." It is definately God's plan for us to enjoy God's example of His love for us on earth through marriage...the sooner the better in my opinion!!! And I think it's wonderful that you guys waited to be intimate. I waited too and it was the best decision I've ever made! Anyway, just wanted to encourage you where I could! May the love of our Lord follow you "all the days of your life" and bring you peace.

In the Clutches of Grace,

Anyway, I just wanted to tell you how glad I am that you chose to get married at a young age. I believe there's a reason that the Bible speaks of "the wife of your youth." It is definately God's will for most of us to enjoy the one true example of His love for His church through marriage while here on earth...the sooner the better in my opinion! I was married @ 21 and I also waited to be intimate with anyone until my wedding night! I was so encouraged to see that there are couples who are proud of that decision and will talk about it openly on a network that isn't so understanding of the idea! So, God bless you for that! My prayer for you is that the Love of our Lord will bring you peace and contentment "all the days of your life." (especially when you're just not liking eachother very much!)

In the Clutches of Grace,

For all of those who were wondering the song they played at the wedding reception, it's call Nothing Fancy by David Barnes. The lyrics are:

There's nothing fancy bout the way i love you,
there's nothing you could not find in any other man.
There's nothing fancy bout the way I love you,
but I love you as hard as I can.

There's no good reason for the way you love me,
but you're my walking dream come true.
There's no good reason for the way you love me,
But I thank God that you do.

I don't know the perfect conversation,
I don't know the way to turn a head,
I don't know the perfect way to prove my love,
But I know I'll love you till I'm dead.

There's nothing fancy bout the way I love you,
It's as simple as the stars in the sky, and the blue in the sea.
There's nothing fancy bout the way I love you,
But it sure is fancy how you love me.

For those of you young and engaged, I have to ask you to think twice, I know no one wants to here it, but I've almost been engaged twice- now I realize what a mistake those would have been- I see bit of myself in each bride. I stuck with my goals and now I'm in law school, I doubt this would have been possible had I been married at a young age or disregarded my parents wishes- they came first, and will be there for you before anyone else, always remember that, and no matter how well you know yourself or think you know yourself- they know you better.

I saw you guys on the show (I think it was like a re-run or something), but nevertheless I had never seen the show until today. It's so encouraging that you guys are a young Christian couple that is working and serving, esp. for TWLOHA!! I am thankful that perhaps the media can see that even young Christian couples can keep certain standards and show a healthy relationship. I am praying for you guys! Thanks once again for shining Jesus through your marriage!
